These sketches should have been online 2 weeks ago … But as I said in my previous post, I felt no power to put them online before … Luckily, I kept sketching on my sketchpad all this time …

Oh yes, a word to say that most of the sketches are from other sources, whether a photo book, Manga illustrations, adverts, or people in places I happen to be …

A final word to say that I have stopped to allow comments on this blog as the spamming was getting annoying … I will try to find a solution later …

Here is a portrait I made while I was eating with some friends in a small pub in Shibuya … I kept saying I was not happy to do it … A bit because I was shy to sketch live for someone like that … I bit because I thought it would look like hell, etc … But in fact I was dead happy to move my ass and just do it © Nike !!! I just realised most of my time sketching is in trains and restaurants … It is interesting but quite limiting … And this is the magic of this blog and my sketchbook … It forces me (I really need that) to always draw … And so in my new sketchbook, I will go in various places in Tokyo and sketch there … Probably during weekends …

Well. Here is the link of a French BD (Comics in French) artist NEMIRI who I just love (his art, not him … I mean, I don’t even know him personally !!!) … Anyway it is here: http://www.nemiri.com/ … I sketched few illustrations based on his comic for children “Hyper L’hyppo” … This comic is even signed by him with a nice little sketch (no really I don’t know him, I got it dedicated thanks to my cousin, who knows him ) … Anyway, I wish I could do like the Japanese say: drink his hanakso* and become as talented as he is

Yeaaaaah … Today I post the page 100 of my sketchbook … At the time I am writting those few lines, I have 16 pages left before It is finished … Go go go !!!

Starting from the following, I have been trying to fill up every cm2 of each pages … I just love it !!!

Weekend water colour 2

For this second water colour piece, I tried again using masking fluid … And once again it was an utter failure … As I was applying the fluid, I could see the ink smudging … I even didn’t start the water colour and just pealed off the fluid already applied … The poor paper was peeling away as I was rubbing it … I am guessing the paper quality of my sketchpad isn’t good enough … Plus the fact my ink isn’t 100% waterproof … Gosh !!!

Weekend water colour

For today’s water colour, I bought some masking fluid. It was a first for me and it went quite wrong. First my (old) brush is completely useless now. I guess there must be some solvent to take off the masking fluid so I will look for a solution to this problem tomorrow … The second nasty point was when I peeled the masking fluid … Some of the paper peeled away with it … I was too scared to use anymore water colour on the paper so I left the characters without any colour … In Photoshop, I added some darker surfaces for the characters’ hair and light shaddows …

I will do one more water colour painting tomorrow … But I think I will pass on the masking fluid for now !!!

Hi … I wanted to do something different for the weekend and thought a water painting would be nice. Then I remembered the site www.illustrationfriday.com where you have to do an illustration based on a weekly topics. I checked this week’s topic: clique. OK! I then took my watercolour pad, but thought I should do a sketch first. I am therefore taking my preferred sketchpad (the one I am making this blog for !!!) … And here I go, scribbling frenetically whatever was coming into my head … A hat .. A woman with a generous chest !!! A star on her chest … A cloak with a kind of crest … At that time, I feel that I will never do the watercolour as redrawing the whole thing would be too much (kinda lazy I now) … Anyway, I then decide to get a puma with her … That’s the start of my clique … Then a kid holding on to the puma (cute) … I am using pencil first to quickly outline what I want to draw then use my ink pen to make a stronger shaggy line … The paper wouldn’t hold with watercolour so I decide to use crayons instead … The result is here … It took me less than an hour … I kinda like it rough … Eh anyway … It is a sketch blog so it fits nicely !!!
